Sling TV, a streaming service, now accepts cryptocurrency payments for monthly subscriptions

Sling TV, an American streaming television service, has announced that it is now accepting cryptocurrency payments from customers who pay their monthly subscriptions. Sling TV revealed that it will accept seven different cryptocurrencies and five stablecoins through the crypto payment provider Bitpay.

Sling TV will accept cryptocurrency as payment for monthly subscription services

Sling TV LLC has announced a partnership with Bitpay, an Atlanta-based cryptocurrency payments provider, and will accept a variety of crypto assets for monthly subscription payments. Sling TV is a streaming television service provider that provides channels that competing cable providers do not. The firm is a subsidiary of Dish Network, a direct-broadcast satellite provider that accepts cryptocurrency payments for subscription services. According to cordcuttersnews.com, Sling will have over 2.55 million subscribers in September 2021.

Sling claims to provide various benefits by providing over-the-top (OTT)-originated services via web browsers, smart TVs, and digital media players. Accepting cryptocurrency exemplifies the company’s desire to provide “choice and convenience to its check-out process,” according to Sling’s announcement. Monthly Sling TV subscribers can pay with bitcoin (BTC), bitcoin cash (BCH), ethereum (ETH), wrapped bitcoin (WBTC), dogecoin (DOGE), and litecoin (LTC). Sling customers can also pay with the stablecoins GUSD, USDC, USDP, DAI, and BUSD.

According to Sling TV’s announcement, beginning this week, Sling TV subscribers will be able to pay for their monthly subscription using cryptocurrency. Users can now choose and pay for their favourite digital streaming service using their preferred digital currency whether it’s bitcoin, ethereum, or dogecoin – via the payment provider Bitpay.

Sling, a streaming television service, joins a slew of companies that have added crypto payment support in the last year. Well-known brands such as Universal Air Travel Plan (UATP), Sheetz convenience stores, Phillips Auction House, Verifone, Sotheby’s, RM Sotheby’s, American Residential Warranty (ARW), and Tifon gas stations have added crypto payment support in the last year. According to a Visa survey conducted in mid-January of this year, one in every four businesses polled planned to accept cryptocurrency payments this year.

Customers with an existing monthly subscription to Sling TV can now pay with digital currencies. New users must pay with a traditional payment method the first time, and then the cryptocurrency payment option will be available to monthly subscribers the following month. “Sling customers can only make one monthly, manual payment with Bitpay, but they will be able to prepay for one to six months at a time,” Sling concludes in its summary of the new payment system.
