The beverage manufacturer has registered four trademarks with the US Patent and Trademark Office.
Monster Energy has four outstanding trademark applications linked to nonfungible tokens (NFTs) and metaverse realms, according to recent filings with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
The initial trademark application covers downloadable virtual items such as beverages, food, supplements, sports, games, music, and fashion. Such downloadable audiovisual content, the document states, will be “authenticated by NFTs.” Additionally, the application includes computer tools that facilitate the exchange of blockchain data.
The second filing covers retail shop and online retail store services that are authenticated by NFTs, as well as a “online marketplace for buyers and sellers of virtual products.” Similarly, the third filing concerns entertainment services in connection with such virtual clothes. Finally, the fourth file involves the provision of online software that enables the exchange of digital assets between users via blockchain technology.
According to USPTO data, the agency can take up to 7.4 months to process first-time trademark applications.
This year looks to have seen an increase in the number of companies joining the NFT and metaverse domains with intellectual property applications. The New York Stock Exchange filed a trademark application for trading NFTs earlier this month. Simultaneously, McDonald’s registered trademarks for “McMetaverse” restaurants, which contain the company’s popular McCafe name.
Meta (previously Facebook) filed trademark applications in Brazil last month for Bitcoin (BTC) and cryptocurrency-related services. Walmart, too, filed seven patent applications that month in connection with its aspirations to develop its own digital currency and NFT collection.
