Crypto Trading is a ‘Clear Growth Area,’ according to a Quant Trading Firm

Crypto trading is a “obvious growth sector,” according to Jane Street, a “quantitative trading firm with a distinctive focus on technology and collaborative problem solving.” It deals in equities, futures, commodities, options, bonds, digital assets, and currencies, among other things.

Jane Street is a “significant player” in bitcoin trading, according to Bloomberg. “Liquidity for a range of digital assets from Bitcoin and Ethereum to some of the most famous meme coins on social media,” says the company, which started trading crypto in 2017. It is one of the market makers for Robinhood, a renowned no-fee trading platform. It collaborates with decentralised exchanges as well (DEXes).

According to Bloomberg, crypto trading has been a “obvious growth area” over the past 16 months, according to Turner Batty, a trader at Jane Street who helped build the crypto desk. According to Batty, the number of Jane Street staff working on cryptocurrency is at an all-time high, with dozens incorporating crypto into their responsibilities, which range from taxation to accounting.

Mina Nguyen, Jane Street’s head of institutional strategy, said he’s seeing more demand for cryptocurrency from a variety of institutions. She told Bloomberg that wealth managers, endowments, and family offices were preparing to invest in cryptocurrency if the regulatory climate in the United States improved.
